MALARIA
Children’s Malaria Intervention Measures – Happy Child Foundation Nigeria
Overview
Malaria remains one of the leading causes of child mortality in Nigeria. In line with our commitment to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), Happy Child Foundation (HCF) is implementing a holistic, child-focused malaria intervention strategy to reduce incidence, improve treatment access, and promote prevention, particularly in underserved and high-risk communities. Our program leverages community engagement, partnerships, and innovation to build sustainable malaria resilience among children and their families.
Strategic Objectives
- Reduce malaria-related deaths among children under five by 60% in target communities over the next five years.
- Improve access to early malaria testing and diagnosis for children across rural and peri-urban regions.
- Enhance community-wide uptake of malaria prevention tools such as insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) and repellents.
- Educate caregivers and children on malaria prevention, symptoms, and the importance of prompt treatment.
Core Intervention Components
- Testing and Treatment Access
• Deploy mobile testing clinics equipped with rapid diagnostic kits (RDTs) to schools, markets, and rural communities.
• Partner with primary healthcare centers to ensure free or subsidized antimalarial drugs are accessible to vulnerable families.
• Establish referral and follow-up systems for complicated malaria cases among children.
